As the scientific organizer of the 55th Membrane Transport Conference, I am honored and delighted to draw your attention to this year’s congress, which will be held—continuing our tradition—between May 12–15, 2026, in Sümeg at Hotel Kapitány. This multidisciplinary conference, already well known within the scientific community, encompasses numerous fields following the logic of the biological hierarchy. At the same time, important new methodologies will also be presented and discussed. Accordingly, starting from the molecular, supramolecular, subcellular, and cellular levels, we will address pathogen–membrane interactions, pathological models, and aspects of translational medicine, while single-cell techniques will also appear as a dedicated topic. The scientific sessions are traditionally organized by leading experts in the respective fields. In addition to invited speakers of international standing, the program will be enriched by selected presentations based on submitted abstracts.

A central mission of the Membrane Transport Conference is to support and empower young researchers. Therefore, the most outstanding young scientists—selected based on presentations in the poster sessions—will present their results in short scientific talks at the “Young Investigators’ Forum.” We also specifically encourage young participants to apply for the Tibor Kovács Award, as well as for the grant offered by the György Romhányi Foundation, which provides support for the participation fee upon abstract submission. Another important objective of the Conference is to strengthen the professional community through valuable social programs, as well as through dedicated time for in-depth discussions and poster viewing. Accordingly, this year’s Conference will again feature uplifting musical, cultural, and culinary events.

We therefore welcome representatives from biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, oncology, immunology, as well as the medical, agricultural, and pharmaceutical sciences to present their scientific results related—broadly—to biological membranes. In addition to the hospitality of Hotel Kapitány, the success of the Conference is ensured by the first-rate organizational work of Remedicon Ltd., as well as the generous support of exhibitors and sponsors.
